Women have helmed Lee & Lee through the years. As the firm celebrates its 60th anniversary during this SG50 year, our managing partner is Mdm Kwa Kim Li. And before her, Mrs Lee Kuan Yew led the firm. Gender has accordingly never been an issue for the firm, and we have long recognized the relative strengths that women bring to leadership positions.

This is true not just for the legal profession. Amongst the boards of listed companies that I serve on, there is an increasing awareness that changes to the gender mix on boards need to be accelerated. The pace of change has indeed picked up and we need to ensure that it is sustained. This can only be in the best interest of the boards themselves as we welcome greater diversity of thought in the boardroom.
